Joshua Zammit is an experienced manager with over 20 years’ experience in the private and public sectors with extensive international experience. After graduating from the University of Malta he continued his studies at postgraduate level at the University of Hull in the UK graduating with a Master degree in Industrial Psychology. He has also attended the Business Excellence Programme with the School of Management at Cranfield University. Joshua has a comprehensive understanding of and a proven track record in business and organisational matters. Throughout his career he has acquired experience and worked in strategy, corporate restructuring, performance enhancement, post M&A integration, organisational development and change management. He is a proven communicator with excellent interpersonal skills at all levels or the organisation and solid leadership capabilities gained through his experience in C-level positions.
Joshua started his career as an Associate Consultant working in a unit within the Office of the Prime Minister of Malta. This experience provided a profound knowledge of how the public sector operates. In his role he mainly participated in projects related to change management, capacity building and organisational development. Following this Joshua worked in a number of organisations in the HR field covering the whole spectrum of HR related activities and industrial relations. During this time, one of the organisations he worked for won an Award for the Best HR strategy for Business Success and was also awarded the prestigious UK standard Investor in People.
In 2005 he joined the Maltese subsidiary of Actavis Ltd as HR Manager for the local manufacturing site. His career with Actavis progressed to being appointed coordinator for the HR functions within Actavis Group and following this he was appointed as Deputy Vice- President for HR and Organisational Development of Actavis Group, a position he held until end 2011. During his time at Actavis the Group expanded to become a global generic pharmaceutical company employing close to 11,000 people in more than 40 countries. During his time with the Group Joshua was responsible for and led or participated in numerous projects spanning various geographical areas ranging from Post M&A integration to performance management, global leadership development, restructuring and change management.
In 2012 Joshua joined the national airline of Malta, AirMalta. At the time the Airline was embarking on a restructuring programme led by a team of expatriate airline management specialists. During his time at AirMalta Joshua was responsible for Organisational Development and later he took over the Project Management Office which was responsible for all the change projects happening within the Airline.
Following AirMalta Joshua was appointed Deputy Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Malta Industrial Parks, a company responsible for the management and administration of all industrial parks in Malta. He left the CEO position at Malta Industrial Parks in 2016 but retained his appointment as Deputy Chairman of the Company.
For the next three years, between 2016 and 2018 he held the position of Group Chief Executive Officer for JCL Holdings. During his time the Company underwent restructuring and substantial expansion of its businesses.
Besides other appointments, Joshua has held numerous board director roles, was President of the Malta Employers Association, Chairman of a future focused think tank for the Chamber of Commerce, Enterprise and Industry in Malta which worked on a project that developed scenarios for economic recovery in a COVID-19 world and whose findings and recommendation were presented to the Cabinet of Ministers of the Government of Malta, a speaker and contributor to the 2015 Business Forum of CHOGM, the Commonwealth Head of Government Meeting, a speaker at the Economist Business Roundtable with the Government of Malta and an invited speaker at the Commonwealth Business Forum held in London as part of CHOGM 2018.
In 2019 Joshua joined Novargo Ltd, the Company he founded in 2011 and currently acts a consultant to a number of private and public organisations. He is also an independent director of Mediterranean Maritime Hub Finance p.l.c., a public limited liability company set up in July 2016 as the financing arm for the multi-million Mediterranean Maritime Hub project and which has bonds that are on the Official List of the Malta Stock Exchange.
Joshua has a deep interest in management and has also carried out research in the area. His latest research project was about business and society in a COVID-19 world which was published and covered by the local media. He also lectures in management at the University of Malta and has supervised students carrying out research for the dissertations. Joshua has also acted as an advisor to the Government of Malta on a number of occasions.
