In 2010 SR Technics Malta Ltd started its operations in a 2-Aircraft Bay facility in Safi Aviation Park, where it kicked off its operation with easyJet PLC.
During the course of February 2022, in the midst of the heavy base maintenance operations, SR Technics Malta relocated to a new state-of-the-art, 6-Aircraft Bay facility, totalling a surface area of 44,000 square metres, in Hal-Farrug Luqa, (ex-Park 4), at the Malta International Airport. This project involved a lot of detailing as it had to be designed in the leanest way possible, using materials that are both efficient and environmentally friendly. Workshops are situated in the middle block between Hangars 1 and 2, which are also interconnected through the Level 1 Mezzanine and the Aircraft docking.
The Company was tasked in 2023 with attaining full independence from the Group. This entailed securing its own EASA Part-145 approval from Transport Malta CAD and to establish its own IT infrastructure.
On the 31st May 2024, after a thorough due diligence process, easyJet PLC acquired the Malta facility and its local employees, thus becoming its new sole Shareholder.
The facility is now known as easyJet Engineering Malta, and it supports a comprehensive, fully customised solution for the Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul of the easyJet fleet, of approximately 346 aircraft. The facility is currently complemented by a 400-strong multi-national workforce.
The future plans include increasing its workshops capability supporting easyJet’s needs as a one-stop-shop, and focusing on creating a pipeline for skills to support a 6-Aircraft Bay facility, and optimizing its operations, in the most cost effective way, without compromising safety and quality.
